I am finished with blocks # 28 & 29 on Sunbonnet Sue. I have only one more block to go, along with some border to finish up. I have no idea when I will get to work on that withthe season that looms before us. I have been cutting Prairie Points but need a couple of million more. :)
I probably will go back to quilting on The Jane Stickle Quilt when Sunbonnet is done.
I really need to learn photography! All of my blocks are straight but look very mis-shapen. (I suspect it is more important for the blocks themselves to be straight.)
I received my 2 new books in the mail I had ordered. I am so drawn to the applique blocks combined with piecing.

Abbott versus Costello

If you don't remember the comedy team of Abbott & Costello, this will not mean anything to you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:
COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.
ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.
ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.
ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.
COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.
COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.
COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?
ABBOTT: Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.
COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?
ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.
COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?
ABBOTT: One copy.
COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?
ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.
COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?
ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!
(A few days later)
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?
ABBOTT: Click on 'START'.............
52 nd Anniversary
Today is my 52nd wedding anniversary. I am trying to remember to celebrate the 51 ½ years that we shared together, rather than listen to my heart weep.
52 years ago tonight that I looked up into the bluest eyes I had ever seen & pledged before God & Man to “ love , honor, & cherish until death do us part.” For all those years, I kept that promise, as did the man I was pledging my words to.
Do I have any regrets? Oh yes, I do!
If I could do any of those years over:
I would clean less & remember to hold his hand more.
Sit with him & watch his TV Westerns .
I would smile more & frown less.
Sit beside him & tell him how much I appreciated him.
I would work less hours at an outside job or perhaps not at all.
I would be in no hurry, I would be more patient.
The list could go on & on....................
He honored me with his last name, a name I hope that I have / will honor in my actions & deeds. He was a good man, an honorable & decent man…….and I will always love & miss him.
Finishing up Sunbonnet
There are only 3 more blocks to quilt after this one.
Friday, August 7, 2009
I look forward each day to quilting on this quilt. I do like my choice of the cross hatch & the cable between the blocks gives just enough movement to soften the straight lines.
The block below is one of my favorite blocks! The pattern called for ice skates. Since we live in western Texas, we don't do much ice skating! I changed the pattern to roller skates.
I am pleased with the way this has come together. I have truly enjoyed the applique & the joining. She is ready for the quilting frame!
SunBonnet is loaded!
I have had this Grace Z-44 for many years. She has the wooden rails & they are still very straight & true.
And so we begin the quilting
I decided to add a border of 4 Patches set on point.
I am entertaining the idea of Prairie Points , rather than a regular binding.
Still progressing
I do like the dress fabric used in the sashing with the hat color in the solids for the corner stones.
I am thinking of a cross hatch to quilt the blocks with perhaps a "twisted rope" in between to soften all the straight lines.
Progress
The Sunbonnet blocks continues to progress. I am really enjoying working on this.
I have decided to border each block in the dress fabric & use the solid for the cornerstones.
Sunbonnet Sue
I am needle turning a Sunbonnet Sue for a Granddaughter's 5th birthday in March. I used 1930 Repo fabrics for this.
Her room is to be re-done around this quilt used as a bed cover.Her favorite color is blue,(like a cornflower blue) so the dust ruffle will be that color of blue.I will applique 2 Sunbonnets on the blue pillow shams.
I wonder if there is a little girl inside of all of us? Very few people do not love Sunbonnet Sue.
I am progressing quite nicely and it seems to be going well.
